this guy's a real whooper. measuring at a size of 4.0" in length, this asaphellus came from zagora formation, ordovician, morocco. with the base genus known as an uncommon type of trilobite, the size of this specimen just adds to the value. with some help from scott, we might nail the direct species down, so for now all we can say is that this is an asaphellus sp.
the genal areas and the genal spines are a bit fishy, but in order to extract the trilobite from the hard limestone of zagora fm, the digger apparently damaged part of the area on the left by accident...
alright, alright. a bit of it is repaired, but most of it is real. the repaired parts are the right eye, the right genal area, the right genal spine and a bit of the left thorax.
but hey... this is an undescribed species! im writing a PDF file to describe it
asaphellus whittaci does look similar... but this is just too big to be whittaci. perhaps the name is already decided... asaphellus gigantus!
